Top meditation need to knows

Meditation is a very well known practice for self love and guidance, but there are some things you should know before you give it a try. Here are my top meditation need to knows, and what I have learned through my training/personal practice.

1.  Thoughts are not the enemy of meditation

There’s a common misconception about meditation that has been around probably as long as the practice itself, and it’s that thoughts are a no no during meditation, and worse, that you are not meditating correctly if you have any thoughts. I am here to say that this is so very untrue. The mind thinks just like the heart beats. It‘s not the goal of meditation to stop your thoughts, but to find the space between the thoughts and to become the observer of them. Once you can observe your thoughts you are no longer bound to them. you have the peace and power to act on them or to cast them aside without judgement.

2. Going deeper into it’s purpose

Many people believe true happiness comes from filling desires, and while this is important to grow and learn as a person it is not the long term source of peace that we need. Meditation comes in to have us ask “Who am I, and what is my purpose?”, and once theses questions are asked and answered we find true happiness within the self because our purpose and inner being are things that can never be taken from us. We know ourselves and love ourselves.

3. There is no perfect way

There are many different forms of meditation, and any of them can be right for you. Whether you sit in contemplation for a few moments, lay in bed and do visualization or sit in lotus pose for hours, it’s all correct and helpful in achieving bliss. There is even yogic sleep (Yoga Nidra) my friend! So explore and find what fits in coming into the role of the observer.

4. What meditation can do for you

So this practice i all about connecting the mind and body. It has been shown to reduce stress and depression, lower blood pressure, help with sleeping patterns and slow the progression of neurodegenerative diseases like dementia and Alzheimer’s.
