- Find your space:
This may seem simple, but depending on your surroundings, it may take a little more effort. True, you can practice almost anywhere, but finding a space that brings a sense of calm is of the upmost importance. This is how you truly feel comfortable.
2. Let go of the day
After you find your physical space, you can then find the space within the self to release and let go of the day so far. So much stress can be built up physically and emotionally throughout the day, and this can hinder our appreciation of the moment we are practicing in. So before you melt into any poses take a moment to become aware of your internal landscape. Also know that happiness is not the only acceptable emotion.
3. Set the scene:
Not only should you roll out your mat, but you should take a little time to set the scene for your practice. Candles, blankets, tea lights, salt lamps and plants are all wonderful additions to the yoga party. You can flow without them, but it is nearly as fun?
4. Music, Music and more music!:
It’s one things to create the physical poses of yoga, and it’s another to be guided and soothed by music. The right music can calm the mind as well as the body, creating a fully soothing or invigorating experience. It’s yogi’s choice!
5. Disconnect for the electronics
Social media, e mails and new are all part of our daily lives, but yoga is a place of meditative movement. This means being fully connected to the self without any other stimulation to distract us. So, just like letting go of the day, lets lovingly put down the laptops and phones for a few moments, knowing it will all be waiting there when you return.
