Tips For Getting Back Into A Workout Routine

If you’re anything like me, you have seasons of your life that make it harder to navigate a healthy lifestyle. Even if it came easy before, it can slide to the side for any number of reasons; Maybe it’s an illness or injury, a family or internal trauma, or possibly even pesky depression. If your ready to reclaim or start a workout routine, here’s some tips and tricks to get you started and fired up.

Step 1. Accountability Partners

The very first thing that I recommend is finding a reliable person to lean on during this time. This person can send you encouraging messages daily to keep you motivated and to remind you of your goals. It may seem simple, and it is, but it made all the difference for me. It kept me honest and a little fire inside kept on burnin.

Step 2. Start Small

To begin with you can start small. Try an active hobby such as indoor rock climbing or paddle boarding. You can work your way into a full blown work out when you feel ready.

Step 3. Try Something New

This can make the experience fun fun fun. Sharing a new workout or  other physical activity with your body is like sharing it with a dear friend. The body loves repetition, but it also loves to be challenged and explore new things. The cool part is there are so many to choose from, for example HIIT, Dancing, Running and jumping rope to name just a few…Have fun my friends!

Step 4. Find The Right Fit

During this experimentation phase you may find one or more workout styles that call to you. Take the time to note these and keep them in regular rotation. If you have fun doing it, you DO IT!

Step 5. Scheduling

This is a must my health seekers. One of the most important things I have learned through my fitness journey is that if you don’t schedule it, it probably won’t happen. Set specific times and days aside to embark on your routine. This gives you a heads up to prepare mentally.

Step 6. Be Gentle With Yourself

There have been days for me, and I know there will be days for you where it’s just plain rough. It can be 1,000 different things that keep you from enjoying or even doing your workout. The most important thing to do is to learn from this experience if needed and be gentle with yourself. Sometimes the situation is out of your hands, or sometimes the body simply needs a break. Keep this in mind always along the way.

Step 7. Celebrate The Win

Allow yourself to enjoy the moments when you have a good workout or are feeling motivated. And a good workout doesn’t have to necessarily be long. If your body feels supple and worked, you made it.
